Reading List for Parents and Educators
-
Adopting Classical Lutheran Education
Adopting Classical Lutheran Education is a collection of resources, information, and practical advice that is designed to help Lutheran school teachers, administrators, and home school parents make the transition to classical education. It is also a useful tool for those already practicing classical Lutheran education in honing their craft. Included in this book are stories of schools that have successfully achieved the transition, so that others may benefit from their experiences.
-
CCLE Handbook
This handbook explains what classical Lutheran education is and why it is needed today. It shows the importance of classical education to Western civilization in general and to the Lutheran tradition in particular. This collection shows how to teach using this educational approach (e.g., music, history, English, writing). It suggest ways that a classical curriculum can be implemented in different contexts, such as in classical schools, homeschools, homeschool/parochial school hybrids, and special education.
-
CCLE Resource Guide
Written by Melinda Heine and Cheryl Swope, this curriculum guide provides guidance to classical Lutheran educators. Reflecting on their own early days of Lutheran homeschooling, the authors noted that many Lutheran teachers and homeschoolers today feel isolated, overwhelmed, or uncertain. While other noteworthy resource guides for homeschoolers exist, they knew of nothing geared especially for Lutherans who desire to bring a Christian classical education to the next generations. Thus, this book was born. The current edition is updated to reflect revised, updated, and additional teaching resources.

The Latin-Centered Curriculum
The Latin-Centered Curriculum by Andrew Campbell answers the question, “Why Teach Latin?” The author demonstrates that when you make Latin the centerpiece of your academic instruction, you will streamline your student’s classical education. Rather than “adding a subject,” you better integrate the learning. Find the 2008 edition, as his more recent edition may support more of an immersion approach rather than the traditional, classical grammar-first method.
-
